I've never been to Mardi Gras

@kai Twice, I was 80 miles away during that time. $EMPLOYER forbade us from driving there, so I never saw it.

I was there many, many moons ago, no reason to go back during Mardi Gras (back some other time of the year for the food, maybe). The French Quarter (and especially Bourbon Street) mostly smells of beer/mold/urine/sweat/unknown. So many people in such a little area. Sometimes I wonder how I don't have nightmares.
@geniusmusing @kai Indeed, I visited #NOLA one Thanksgiving with a friend who lived there. I, too, noticed that Bourbon Street smelled of urine.

I did get to see the Ninth Ward and one of the levees. There are houses right across the street from that giant wall. I saw houses that remained empty, years after Katrina, and homes that were elevated to various levels, even next to one another. I was quite uncomfortable looking up at the levee, and I was also uncomfortable driving across the water to get there.

I think all in all, it was a worthwhile visit, but I did not even get to hear a musical performance.

@lnxw48a1 @geniusmusing I've heard that if you like it, you either move there or spend the rest of your life thinking about it.
