Barber guy: "Have you ever been to LA?"
Me: "Yeah, I go there a few times a year."
Barber: "They got good pizza out there?"
Me: "Not really."
Barber: frowns and changes the subject

@kai I haven't lived in the #Los_Angeles metro since the 1980s, but in most areas there was one locally-owned pizzaria that was head and shoulders above the national chains. This still seems to be true in other parts of #SoCal.
OTOH, I tried #pizza in Northern #NJ (Middlesex County / Somerset County area) and did not like it, so my opinion may not count for much.

@lnxw48a1 the pizza I tried in Los Angeles was acceptable; certainly good enough to keep me from going crazy from wanting pizza.

My favorite pizza here is New York style by a transplanted New Yorker, but if he doesn't prepare it, it's just OK. It seems these sorts of skills are unteachable.

I didn't get to try the pizza in Detroit, but I hope to go back. I liked the city.

Most pizza in Buffalo is astonishingly good. Pretty much anything red-sauce-italian is cheap and excellent.
