basically i didn't like xoxo(as a conference it did little to challenge or surprise me, it was very much an insider pat-oneself-on-the-back affair and i just gave up on the talks instantly) and found portland to be very much like a bigger santa cruz sharing the emphasis on being "fun to visit"(which i started disliking more the longer i resided in SC) so i guess this trip has revealed me to be a overly serious stick in the mud who doesn't like fun
I give credit to both the city and the conference for being a very refined version of the things they are. people actually make eye contact here unlike sf, and i ate at a new location every meal and all of it was good. and there were some impressive amenities for the festival, but that in itself kind of weirds me out. I got excited for the giant karaoke party they ended on and then never got my turn!
